Airport Food Delivery, Other Services are Taking Off at BWI

Navigating BWI airport has never been easier for travelers.

The Baltimore Washington International-Thurgood Marshall Airport has become the home to two new apps in recent months, including Airport Sherpa and Jourve.

Both apps make traveling with BWI a little easier by delivering a variety of goods within the airport.

Airport Sherpa delivers food, gifts, and gadgets, and Jourve takes service a step farther.

According to an article in the Baltimore Business Journal, about 50 Jourve reps will now be available to assist travelers with everything from returning a rental car to holding your place in line at a food stand, in addition to delivering food to a designated gate.

While Jourve reps cannot hold a spot in a security line, they can do almost everything else, including standing in the baggage claim area for them at a cost of $5, or at check-in for $20.

And if you’re craving Chipotle, McDonald’s, Subway, or Potbelly’s, you’re in luck. These are the first several restaurants to be included in Jourve’s delivery service, with more to be added over time.

Other food items are available through Airport Sherpa, which was launched a few weeks prior.

At an average delivery cost of about $6, Airport Sherpa offers food deliveries from almost a dozen other restaurants throughout BWI, including Auntie Anne’s, Kraze Burgers, and Pie Five Pizza.

An article in USA Today points to services like Airport Sherpa an Jourve as “game-changing” pioneers in the airport dining industry.

The services address a need to address what the article calls “gate-hugging,” which is essentially when a majority of travelers head straight for their gate and stay put until the flight.

Most often it doesn’t matter if the flight leaves in five minutes, or five hours. Chances are, the traveler will stay put, making the idea of food delivery, as well as other service options, that much more appealing.

As of right now, the programs are up and running only at BWI, but the article reports that could be changing soon.

Elsewhere at BWI, Flying Dog Tap House opened recently in the airport’s Concourse A.

Offering beers and local fare from the Frederick-based brewery, the pub opened at BWI earlier this month.

The menu includes Flying Dog beers and a sampling of crafty and cleverly named food options, including sliders, wings, and house-made barbeque sauce all featuring elements of the brewery’s products.
